When responding to your classmates, please provide feedback on their examples of good and poor critical thinking skills. Discuss additional ways one can think more critically. Each participation post should be a minimum of 75 words.
Explain at least five elements of critical thinking that you found in the reading material. The topic I have chosen is regarding gun suppressor ownership. The article is titled “5 Reasons to Consider a Suppressor”. The elements I have found in the article was interpretation, analysis, inference, explanation, and self-regulation. The author made the subject matter easy to understand, provided sufficient information supporting his claims, statistical data, offered clarity and perspective on silencer ownership, and finally the author provided information for the reader to make their judgment on suppressor ownership.
Search the Internet, media, or the Ashford University Library, and find an example in which good critical thinking skills are being demonstrated by the author or speaker. Summarize the content and explain why you think it demonstrates good critical thinking skills.
The article is titled “5 Reasons to Consider a Suppressor” explains the benefits of gun suppressor benefits. Gun Suppressors create hearing safety, happier neighbors, ethical hunting, effective defense, and enhanced accuracy (Johnston, 2015, December 15). I believe the author demonstrated good critical thinking skills because he allowed the article to be easily read and understood and he communicated the information well. The author provided statistical data to support his claims regarding hearing safety, silencer laws and crime. He used past experiences and opinions to justify his reasoning. I believe the author provided clarity and perspective to suppressor ownership.
Search the Internet, media, or the Ashford University Library and find an example in which the author or speaker lacks good critical thinking skills. Summarize the content and explain why you think it demonstrates the absence of good, critical thinking skills.
The article I believed that lacked critical thinking skills is titled “Shooting Tips: Understanding the Benefits of a Suppressor.” The article provided necessary information regarding the benefits of a suppressor. The benefits include preventing hearing loss, improving the shooters aim, allows the shooters to communicate while shooting, and allows shooters to be more aware of their surroundings (Snow, 2015, March 19). The article lacked inference, evaluation, explanation, and self-regulation. The author did not include specific statistics and information to support his claims. Nor did he include experiences or judgments to validate the information presented in the article.
