28 Days Later is a horror film directed by Danny Boyle that premiered in 2002. It is set in England, and the film is really well known for the scene in which the protagonist, who has just woken up into a post-apocalyptic world, wanders a deserted London. You can watch a clip of that scene here: https://www.amazon.com/28-Days-Later-Cillian-Murphy/dp/B00C4QLIJK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501518365&sr=8-1&keywords=28+days+later (Links to an external site.)
28 Days Later is an important movie in film history because it was one of the first major motion pictures to be shot using digital recording technology. The grainy quality of the images contributes to the eerie, uncanny, horror of the post-apocalyptic, zombie-infested world. It is also an important film because the zombies are fast. They are really terrifying. Gone are the cheesy, slow-moving zombies that humans can somewhat easily conquer. The zombies in this film are infected with a rage virus and express real hatred.
There are many themes that emerge in the film. For extra credit, I would like for you to consider how the film engages with the zombie themes, themes of survival, human community, experimentation, hierarchy, and so on. Moreover, we have a black female hero, who teaches Jim how to survive in the New World. Played by Naomi Harris (Moonlight), Selena finders herself a leader in this world.
