Personal Leadership Training Plan: Final

In Units II, IV, V, and VI, you designed PowerPoint presentations on different elements of your Personal Leadership Training Plan. Now, you will put all of the sections together into one PowerPoint presentation. Make revisions to your previous sections based upon your feedback from your instructor. Additionally, you will add a description of a company or leader you admire and what you can learn from this company or leader.

Start by reviewing your instructor’s feedback from Units II, IV, V, and VI, and then meet the following criteria:

  • Combine all PowerPoints into one presentation, and make revisions based on your instructor’s feedback and new knowledge.
  • Add introduction and conclusion slides (two slides).
  • Select either a leader or company you admire that experienced a major change in organizational culture.
  • Explain that change and the circumstances surrounding that change (seven slides minimum).
  • Explain how you can learn from this change (two slides minimum).

You are required to use at least one outside source for this assignment. All sources used must be cited and referenced according to APA format. You are not required to add additional slides to the portions submitted in previous units (unless otherwise instructed by your professor).

Imagine that you have just been hired by a new company as the director of the HR department. You have been tasked to hire a new secretary for the department and to develop an employee compensation and benefits package that will be used for that position upon hire. Develop a PowerPoint presentation to present this information to your Vice President. Go to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) Website, located at www.bls.gov, for information regarding organizations and pay in your geographical area.

Section 1: Narrative

Write a two to three (2-3) page paper in which you:

  1. Choose the type of organization for which you are designing the package.
  2. Develop an employee compensation and benefits package for this new position. Support your ideas for the compensation/benefits package.
  3. Use at least three (3) quality academic resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not qualify as academic resources.

Section 1 of your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

Section 2: Presentation

Create a twenty (20) slide PowerPoint presentation in which you:

4. Provide an overview of the employee compensation and benefits package that you developed in the narrative portion of this assignment.
5. Determine if the employee will be exempt or nonexempt and discuss how overtime will be handled.
6. Suggest other benefits that might be considered within the next few months to enhance employee performance and provide job motivation.
7. Provide information on how government regulations will influence the compensation.
8. Examine data from two (2) organizations listed in the BLS Website with packages similar to yours, focusing on salary, compensation, and benefits in order to convince upper management that your package should be accepted and implemented.
9. Describe how the competitive compensation and benefits package will align with the HRM strategy.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

Data-Based Changes

Assignment:

Data-Based Changes

Write an essay addressing each of the following points/questions. Be sure to completely answer all the questions for each number item. There should be three sections, one for each item number below, as well the introduction (heading is the title of the essay) and conclusion paragraphs. Separate each section in your paper with a clear heading that allows your professor to know which bullet you are addressing in that section of your paper. Support your ideas with at least three (3) citations in your essay. Make sure to reference the citations using the APA writing style for the essay. The cover page and reference page do not count towards the minimum word amount. Review the rubric criteria for this assignment.

  1. Identify one aspect of big data and data mining that is interesting to you. Explain the concept and how it might bring value to healthcare.
  2. Describe the concept of continuity planning. If you were the director or manager for your current workplace, describe the preparedness program you would recommend.
  3. Locate an article discussing the use of informatics in healthcare education of the general public or of nursing students. Discuss the benefits and drawbacks to using technology in this situation and recommendations from the author. Do you feel this use of technology is a viable method of educating (the public or nursing students)? Why or why not?

What is required when developing an implementation plan?

  1. Utilizing the model selected (WIL App), create the detailed implementation plan for the innovation. Make sure the plan accounts for contingencies/risks in the implementation process and includes realistic timeframe and budgeting considerations. This should be 550-750 words.

This should be answered using a hypothetical app called WIL.

Here is a description of the app

When I Leave (WIL)

There are many uncertainties in this life, but one thing that is certain is that every person will die. Although that statement is crass and maybe harsh for some people, it is still undoubtedly the reality that all humans face. No one knows the exact day or time of his or her passing and unless someone has been ill for a long time and was given a number of days to live, it can be difficult to prepare a traditional funeral where every loved one can attend. This is why the company When I Leave (WIL) is so brilliant.

When I Leave is an online platform that allows people to express all of the things that they want to be remembered and celebrated for after he or she dies. The users are able to share moments that formed them as well as follow the pages of other users that have pubic settings on their page. This can be just another social application, but what sets it apart is the purpose behind it. Facebook is the largest social networking site in the world with over two billion monthly users in 2019 (Clement, 2019). However, as the world gets busier and technology takes over more parts of everyday life, WIL can be as big if not bigger than Facebook. WIL has the potential to innovate a new perspective in the Internet space by leveraging the ease of preparation with the joy of celebration.

Funerals or memorial services have needed innovation for years. WIL has the ability to put together all of the uploaded photos and videos uploaded by the user into a slideshow that loved ones can watch when they visit the virtual gallery of one’s life. It will also gather all of the journal entries, captions and statuses of the user and create a PDF journal that can be printed and kept. In addition, this idea solves an issue of people that cannot make it to the funeral service because of work, travel restrictions, or bad health. The WIL platform allows for live streaming of the funeral from beginning to ending without distraction.

The innovation model used to evaluate this idea is the linear model. This is one of the simpler models that was believed to be invented in 1945. The process of this model is basic research, applied research, development, and production (Godin, 2005). The basic research entails checking for an existing company that is already doing this work and then applied research is looking for information that will help jump-start the development process. For example, in America alone, someone dies every 12 seconds (Live births, deaths, and infant deaths, latest available year, 2018). This statistic furthers the support for WIL to develop and launch. The production of the site will be simple and easy to use. Over time, When I Leave can spread and be the innovative idea that becomes a normal part of everyday life for billions of people around the world.

Complete Discussion Activity 1 and Discussion Activity 2

Write a 150-200 word response to each of the following discussion activities. Use specific references and direct quotes from our readings this week to illustrate and support your view/s.

Discussion Activity #1

  • Critic Roland Barthes has said, “Literature is the question minus the answer.” Considering Barthes’ observation, identify and explain a central question that Henry James’ “Daisy Miller” raises and the extent to which it offers answers. Explain how Henry James’ treatment of this question affects your understanding of the work as a whole. Avoid mere plot summary and use specific, concrete examples from the story to illustrate how the scene (or scenes) raises questions about the characters and the extent to which it offers any answers. For example, James uses psychological realism to present to us a picture of Daisy Miller that is at times as bewildering to us as she is to Winterbourne. Why does James choose to probe both Winterbourne and Daisy’s characters — both of them Americans you should note — using a limited narrative perspective (Links to an external site.). In other words, the narrator only reveals to us the same perceptions and observations as the limited perceptions and observations of the characters in the story themselves (versus a more traditional omniscient narrator who would divulge everything to us). What effect does the limited narrative point-of-view achieve and what questions does it raise? Use at least one scene in the story to support your answer.

Discussion Activity #2

  • Compare “The Yellow Wall-paper” to James’ “Daisy Miller” as portraits of American women in peril. Compare the complicity of men in these crises. READINGS ATTACHED

At least two follow-up responses (min. 50-words each) are required no later than midnight (CST) on Sunday, September 1. Be sure to use selective quotes in your follow-up responses.

To do this, you should NOT simply agree or disagree; instead, observe the following options for effective and thoughtful responses that put your ideas and your views in conversation with others:

Begin your response by briefly (in a sentence or two) identifying what you are specifically responding to (use brief, direct quotes to do this) and whether you agree, disagree, or both agree and disagree (i.e. “I agree with you up to a point”).

If you disagree, you need to do more than merely assert that you disagree with a particular view; you also have to give persuasive reasons why you disagree: because an interpretation and/or response fails to take other relevant factors into account; because it is based on faulty or incomplete textual evidence; because it rests on questionable assumptions; or because it uses flawed logic, is contradictory, or overlooks what you take to be the real issue, theme, or intended purpose. To move the conversation forward (which is the point of a discussion board, right?) you need to demonstrate that you have something to contribute.

If you agree, you need to do more than simply echo views you agree with. Even as you are agreeing, you need to bring something new and fresh to the conversation: you might point out some unnoticed textual evidence to further support a viewpoint, you might cite some corroborating personal experience, or explain a situation previously unmentioned. You can further the discussion and contribute simply by pointing out unnoticed implications or explaining something that needs to be better understood.

If you both agree and disagree, explain how you agree up to a point and where your view differs. This is especially instructive for responding to complex or particularly challenging works that you are as yet unsure about. This approach should weigh pros and cons rather than come out decisively either for or against. In this approach, the reasons for your ambivalence need to be made clear.

Assignment:

For this assignment, you will be placed (virtually) in a real-world scenario that occurs in schools. Please read the following description of the authentic performance task and complete the requirements as described in the scenario.

SCENARIO

“You are an Early Childhood Specialist in a school district, and you have been asked by administration to create a training program that you will use to train educators in creating and maintaining successful school/family partnerships. The focus should be on ‘Collaborating with Families’ for each of the following areas:

  • How to establish a good relationship between families and teachers
  • How to increase families’ interest and participation in their children’s learning
  • Challenges to working with families and the how to’s of resolving these challenges
  • Benefits and specific strategies of building a strong family/teacher partnership (include data to demonstrate the benefits)

Outline this training in writing and develop three key methods/ideas of support for each part of the program. Your plan should be realistic, coherent, and precise, and should address all three required components in a research-based manner using text support and outside research to create a comprehensive training presentation plan.”

The program description should be 1500-1750 words and should include at least four (4) citations. The sections should be clearly marked with headings so that your instructor knows which points you are addressing. Follow the guidelines for APA writing style. The title page and references page do not count towards the minimum word amount for this assignment.

Music Writing Assignment

Over the years, I’ve noticed that many students enter my MUS 105 class believing they don’t know much about classical music, that it all sounds the same to them, or it’s not “for them.” I believe that music is music. If you enjoy any genre of music at all, you probably know more about classical music than you realize! Whether or not any particular genre we study in this class becomes something the really appeals to you, I know that you will be able to learn to listen to it more actively, distinguish between various styles, and find a deeper connection with all types of music.

Listen to the two videos below, and respond to the following to complete this assignment:

Which video features better music-making?

What about it makes it better? Describe in as much detail about the music as you are able.

What about the other video makes it worse? Describe in as much detail about the music as you are able.

How can you you tell these videos are performances of the same song when they sound so different? Describe in as much detail about the music as you are able.

Most students who have not studied music before will have a strong and immediate preference about which performance they prefer and believe is “better.” That’s proof you have a discerning ear! The more difficult task is describing what you heard and explaining WHY you prefer one over the other. As you work through this course, you will develop your ability to listen actively, describe what you hear and communicate about your musical preferences. I believe these are powerful skills that help us connect to the emotions within us and the people around us!
